What Is White Glove Delivery?
White glove delivery is a premium last-mile service that goes beyond curbside or dock delivery. It may include appointment scheduling, inside delivery, room-of-choice placement, unpacking, light assembly, and debris removal.
When Do You Need It?
- Furniture, sofas, mattresses, office desks
- Fitness equipment, medical devices, commercial displays
- High-value or fragile items that can't be dropped at the curb
- B2C orders requiring room-of-choice placement
- Addresses without a dock or forklift (residential/office)
The White Glove Process
- Confirm service level — Curbside, threshold, inside delivery, room of choice, or full white glove
- Schedule delivery — Carrier contacts recipient to confirm date and time window
- Pre-delivery notification — Call 30-60 minutes before arrival
- Inside placement — Driver or two-man team carries to the specified room
- Unpack and inspect — Check packaging and visible damage
- Placement/assembly — Position or basic setup per service scope
- Sign and note — Note any damage on the POD and take photos
Why It Costs More
White glove includes labor, scheduling coordination, handling risk, stairs/elevator access, long carries, unpacking, and debris removal. Stairs, parking restrictions, multi-person teams, and oversized items add further cost.
